Updated Latex Mask

Current progress on latex mask with a few layers of latex painted onto a mould of my face with clay to create the design

Life Drawing 11th Dec

All life drawings from today, wearing costume & without

Alternative Miss World - Rational

Where do I want it to go & how do I go about it?
Make a suit?
Latex Mask?
Include numbers/letters somehow? - Infinity mainly
Shapes - Circles

How will it look?
Based upon a circus ring-master?
Clown?
Funny or creepy?

What will it be?
Video Scribe - photos?
Animation - use technique similar to their advertising - Collage
Costume?

Quick Time
Adobe Flash

My end goal is to make a garment which represents letters & numbers and also incorporates my latex mask of a scary/creepy clown face
I want to stick around the theme of Infinity & circles/never-ending shapes, numbers or forms

How will it walk?
Animate it possibly?
What if the face could move?

Self Assessment of Everything So Far

Since the beginning of this academic year;
I have started to find my style of drawing
I have improved massively in drawing with tablets and graphics pads
Adobe Flash & Photoshop are easier to use and higher quality
Understand the importance of Art in the outside world
Better awareness of critical assessment & not to take everything personally
Starting to use up all the space I have been given, be it on a piece of paper or workspace
Taking more influence from other artists & work (with the help of social networking)

Still need to improve on the amount of research I do however
Need more sketchbook work
More on Blogger
More work in general
Need to keep up with Personal Reflection book & my diary/daily sketchbook

What have I created?
Life Drawing on Paper, Tissue, Tablet, Paint, Chalk, Pencil, Pen, Stick
Short animations in Darren's session to get used to Flash again
Video Scribe
Started on Diary/Daily sketchbook
Currently working on a design for wearable piece for SeWhat

How do i feel life drawing is going?
Tablet drawings are going pretty well, starting to get better and find my style
Still struggling & getting frustrated when using paint & most media on paper
Proportions are slightly off but not too noticeable

Life Drawing on Tablet

Model was ill today so we took it in turns being the model & drawing each other. Bad quality images because I was unable to get the originals off the tablet, hopefully will be able to get them soon. Started off pretty roughly as usual but managed to get a few good pieces done this session,l. Need to work of faces & colouring of skin & shading tones.

Contextual

Why do we learn about the past?
Without knowing the past how can we create the future?
History would repeat itself
We find our style within the timeline of art

Life Drawing 6th November

Life drawing went pretty well today, we used oil pastels & pencil. I'm not usually any good with oil pastels but today was an exeption. I went for yellow, peach & black for 2 of my compositions & Sky Blue & Blue for my other, blended with white. There were also a few mistakes made today.

Surrealism

Rene Magritte - 1898-1967
Turns meanings upside down or destroying them completely
''Dislocated objects from their settings''
The point of his paintings were to make a point & not distract from that

-This is not a pipe - Ceci n'est pas une pipe
-Son of Man
-The Blank Signature
-Clairvoyance (shown below)

Painting were simple, easy to look at, safe colour, colours don't distract you from the abstractness, mild colours. Making the eye believe it more.

Non Sequitur- A conclusion or argument which does not logically follow the previous argument or statement

Giorgio De Chirico
-The Uncertainty of the Poet

Metaphysics - the branch of philosophy that deals with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, identity, time, and space.

Dave 3D Work

We had to convert our propaganda posters into 3D pieces of work/sculptures.
I too influence from the Channel 4 advert where it shows there logo in separate parts which only looked correct from one angle where as the other angles it looks distorted/incorrect.

Automaticism/Surrealism

Froyd - late1800 - Phyco-analasys

Metaphysics -

Georgio De Chirico - 1913 - 1916 - 1929

Joan Miro - Automatic drawing
-Controls work afterwards
-Done on huge scale & commonly recreates into 3D sculptures

Surrealist Automatism (Automatic Drawing)
-Free
-Don't think
-Spontaneous
-Unlocks your subconscious

-Children don't have the conscious mind to control their drawings
-Automatism returns to that

Surrealist Manifesto

A manifesto is a statment which is published and made by a party/group of people of an individual stating their intention, motives or views.
It will accept either a previous published opinion or public consensus (which is a group desision making process) or it will promote a new idea and the changed which the party/group or individual believes should be made.

DADA & Dadaism

Began in Zurich, Sweden in 1916 at the Cabaret Voltaire
- Escapees from WW1
- Fled to Cabaret
- Art, Poetry, Performances, Music
- Eventually evolved into Dada & the 'Anti-Art' movement
Height of New York Dada was in 1915
Marcel Duchamp - 1913 - 'Readymades'

Dada Collage & Text
- Controlled Mess
- Newspapers, Posters & other 'readymade' works
- The text became part of the composition rather than just information
- A lot of chance involved
- A lot of Satire involved

Duchamp did something similar where instead of just adding images he defaced images, example: lhooq
- If lhooq is said fast with a french accent it sounds similar to the slang name for 'She has a hot ass'
- Was shown as a postcard featured below

Exquisite Corpse
- Fold Paper & each person writes a line or draws a body part (depending on version of game) to make a sentence or animal
Can be done with drawings or words

Dada rebelling against the bourgeois
Bourgeois - French for middle-class

Rrose Sélavy
- One of Marcel Duchamp's alter egos
- Aimed to break the ownership of Art being more important than the art itself

Baroness of Dada - Elsa von Fraytag-Loringhoven
- Living work of Art
- Wore her artwork
- Came up with the idea of 'Fountain' by Marcel Duchamp
- Started her work as a model & then started to make artwork out of 'readymades' & wore them around
- Also wrote poems
- She lived and breathed Dada
